After Jacinto falls into a strange crack in the ground from which a strange lament is heard, his family will discover that the true devil might be among themselves and not inside this dreadful place. There are two themes that run thru “The Lament”. The first one in evident: fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of beign alone. But there is a second, perhaps stronger, theme: guilt. It is guilt that drives the characters in this little story, the sentiment which gets a plot in motion that will make everyone find something about themselves. At first, “The Lament” started as a simple supernatural story where normal characters have to face an unknown threat. Jacinto, a small boy, falls into a strange crack in the ground, a mysterious place from where a ghastly lament comes out and fills the desert. This “simple story” soon became a playground to explore the dynamics between a family that has fear rooted deep inside them. “The Lament” is a mexican folk tale with a ghostly twist, one where the call of the devil can be a deceptive thing. |
